Just a little something someone once said

Updated: Nov 29, 2020

This article will be about some things some people once said that can lighten up your day. Everything on the news nowadays are negative; natural disasters, murder, bribery… the list goes on and on, constantly reminding us about the corruption of government and other societal systems, the inequality and the injustice, and, of course, they should be reported. However, when was the last time you heard something positive, something nice, something that gets you, there, right in your heart. If you have read my previous articles, you would’ve realised I don’t write articles like this. They are all either informative or opinionated backed up with facts, but this time, I wanted to try something new, so here it goes.

“It’s not the years in your life that counts, it’s the life in your years.” — Abraham Lincoln
  • Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, led the Union through the American Civil War. As a result, passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, the 13th amendment abolished slavery. It states that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

  • The quote states that it’s not about how long you live but it’s about how you lived those years. How have you contributed to society? Was it worthy? Was your life the life you wanted, the life you dreamed of? What can you do to make it worth it? Even if it’s just for a day, make it worthy.

“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.” — Mark Twain
  • Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens) was a famous American writer, humorist, publisher, and lecturer. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced". He wrote books such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Life on Mississippi, etc.

  • What he means is that no soul on this earth is meaningless. Everyone is someone’s son, daughter. Loved by at least somebody. You must be here for a reason. The day you find out why you are here, it might take a decade, century, maybe a whole lifetime, but it’s one of the two most important days in your life.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” — Steve Jobs
  • Steve Jobs, as many would know, was the CEO of the company Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer Company). He had some controversies surrounding him, but he had still founded the very popular company that currently is one of the world’s leading industries in technology. That alone is a huge accomplishment.

  • The quote explains that nobody can live forever. We are all destined to die. (so much for positivity, I know) We have restrictions because of time. Time is our only possession but it’s also what many lacks in. As such, you shouldn’t use it trying to fulfill what others require of you but instead use it wisely, doing what you want, and living your life.

This last one personally means a lot to me;

“Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” — Bob Marley
  • Bob Marley was a Jamaican Singer-Songwriter. His musical career was essentially marked by the elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as his unique vocals and distinct songwriting style.

  • What he’s saying is that everybody has flaws and no matter how much one means to you, they’ll end up hurting you, big or small. You just have to find someone that means enough to you in order to accept it and move on. The essential thing is to not long on the words of the other person, but instead, find someone worth “suffering” for. You can last a lifetime with them. Of course, you shouldn’t blindly accept their insults at you, but you should try to accept their flaws and love them for who they are.

Hope you found these words of somebody encouraging. Have a nice day!
